Kids

Kids want to feel like they can accomplish something on their own. Leaving them in charge of the presents they’re giving, is a great way to make that happen.

At activityvillage.co.uk, there are hundreds and hundreds of fun Christmas Crafts your kids can make. They can make Rudolphs, Angels and Santas out of wooden spoons, they’ll learn the many many ways of making an empty toilet roll a reindeer or a Santa. And what grandparents wouldn’t love to get a hand made nativity scene, that your child created? It’s really not about how it looks, it’s about how it makes the receiver and the giver feel, and in this case, they both will feel amazing.

But how exactly do you make, for instance, a wooden spoon Rudolph? Well, it’s fairly easy. First of all you will need a wooden spoon (go figure…!), which you will paint brown with some brown paint. Next step: you take a piece of brown foam and cut into antlers, which are to be glued to the bowl of the spoon. If you want, you can put some glue on the antlers and sprinkle glitter on them. The final step: you just take a red pompom, for the nose, and draw on eyes and a mouth and you’re done! Now wasn’t that easy.

Creativity is the mother of inventions. Well, maybe that’s not really how it goes, but by letting your child be creative, you can give them the chance to make something really awesome. Like a beautiful painting. You take a big canvas and some water colours. Help your kids out at first, by showing them that if they drip puddles of paint on the canvas, and then use a straw and blow, they can make amazing shapes and figures, using just their imagination and some colours. This is a technique that even the youngest kids can master and since you’re using water colours, any stains will be easily removed in the wash. The paintings will be beautiful and your kids will feel that they might rival Jackson Pollock any day now.

Finally, if you give your children some magazines, a pair of scissors and some glue, they can go bananas making their own collages. Watch them cut and paste for hours and wind up with an end result that looks, well if not amazing, then at least good enough to pass onto the grandparents. Either way, your kids will have a lot of fun with this and that’s why it’s a great gift.

So you see, it’s not difficult at all, really, letting your kids loose to create their own presents. Just give them time and space and they might surprise you yet!
