Thoughts

Around Christmas, we generally tend to show our feelings towards other people in a way we don’t usually do. We are more considerate and caring, to be blunt. But although we could all use to behave more like that the rest of the year too, we think it’s good to at least take the opportunity, at Christmas, to think of someone else.

If you have trouble thinking of a gift for your special someone, why not give them a thought. Giving someone a booklet of gift coupons is a lovely present. The best part? You can make the coupons yourself, and make the value of them fit according to the receiver. Mum might want a coupons for a day out with you, some time shopping or a spa-weekend, whilst dad might want your help while fixing the boat, or your help mowing the lawn. Helping those you love with everyday chores is a great way of letting them know you care, and it’s appreciated. Even if it feels like a small gift to give, it’s not to them. If you have a friend or sibling with a large family and lots of responsibility, why not give them an afternoon’s worth of baby sitting, or a coupon for one trip to the supermarket. The little things are the ones we remember. If you’re in a relationship, your love will surely appreciate whatever your coupons entail, and since it’s a private present, no one has to know what you may be obligated to do, just have fun with it!

When thinking of others, we may sometimes think outside our immediate circle of friends and family. There’s a website that gives you the chance to really think of someone else for Christmas. At caregifts.org.uk, you can give away a goat or a desk or a set of school books, to a child in need somewhere in the world. The way you do it, is you choose what you want to give, and fill in the registration online, and just like that, you’ve helped someone out. Some time later, you will get a gift certificate of sorts, thanking you for your donation and letting you know your gift has been given. If your friends are the humanitarian kind, you might fill in their names, and come Christmas, they get the certificate and see that instead of yet another book, you helped change the world in their name. That’s not too shabby, now is it?

Thinking of others when we shop for Christmas gifts really isn’t harder than this.
